Program Overview
Participants will explore multicultural co-learning through academic study, fieldwork, and cultural exchange in Türkiye.
The program includes:
- Training at Gakken Türkiye (Gakken Holdings Group) on the overseas expansion of Japanese businesses and women’s empowerment through publishing.
- Lectures and workshops at the Department of Japanese Language, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, covering Japanese literature, manga inspired by disasters, the global reception of manga, Turkish culture, and the history of Japan–Türkiye relations (conducted in English with supplementary Japanese).
- Collaborative workshops with local students through manga and comparative cultural studies.
- Educational visits to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in İzmir, Çanakkale, and Istanbul.
- Accompaniment by one faculty member from the University of Tsukuba throughout the program.
Eligibility & Capacity
- Capacity: 10 students
- If applications exceed capacity, priority will be given to students in the College of Comparative Culture.
- Open to undergraduate students enrolled in a regular degree program at the University of Tsukuba.
Scholarship
Applications are being accepted for the University of Tsukuba Overseas Study Support Program (Habatake! Tsukuba Students).
- Travel grant of up to ¥200,000 per student
- Results are expected in mid-December 2025.
Estimated Program Cost
Approximately ¥450,000, including:
- Round-trip airfare: approximately ¥280,000
- Domestic transportation and accommodation in Türkiye: USD 1,020 (shared room for 2–3 people, breakfast included; approximately ¥170,000)
Travel insurance and personal expenses are not included.
Application Schedule
- December 2, 2025 (Tue), 5:00 PM: Submit the application form by email to Yukari Yoshihara (the form will be distributed during the information session).
- Mid-December: Scholarship results announced.
- Late December: Final participation decision and submission of the participation agreement.
