Outline
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is implementing the “Project for Strengthening Overseas Networks to Promote Study in Japan.” This project aims to strengthen support systems for studying in Japan by enhancing collaboration with overseas diplomatic missions, related organizations, and companies, while promoting activities such as study abroad fairs and school visits. Through these efforts, the project supports student recruitment and follow-up after returning to their home countries, while developing effective recruitment activities adapted to local circumstances.
Hub universities have been selected for each region of the world, and these universities actively promote study in Japan on behalf of Japanese higher education institutions. This time, Akita University, which is responsible for Sub-Saharan Africa, has invited the University of Tsukuba to participate in a study in Japan fair in Botswana. Many Japanese universities are expected to participate, and the University of Tsukuba will also join the event to promote admission opportunities to local high school and university students.
At the fair, in addition to promoting study in Japan, activities introducing Japanese culture and information about Japan will be conducted for local high school and university students to foster familiarity and interest in Japan. With the cooperation of Akita University, this opportunity has been provided as part of the University of Tsukuba’s Multicultural Co-Learning Program. Participants will introduce Japanese culture and information about Japan at the study in Japan fair and will also have the opportunity to discuss solutions to the issue of overseas study at Japanese universities with students from the University of Botswana and Botswana University of Science and Technology, two flagship universities in Botswana.
Students participating in this program will introduce Japan at the study in Japan fair and participate in group discussions with local university students.

Eligibility
〇 Undergraduate students at the University of Tsukuba: No specific academic field, program, or year of study is required (undergraduate students only; graduate students are not eligible to apply). Students who have a strong interest in promoting the University of Tsukuba and Japanese culture to local high school and university students, and who can actively participate in discussions and cultural exchange with local students. (No minimum language requirement is set.)
〇 Participants are required to register for the intensive course offered by the College of Life and Environmental Sciences: “Global Issues Internship EZA1020” (1 credit). Please pay attention to the maximum number of registered credits.
〇 Before departure, participants are required to complete online (on-demand) pre-departure learning in September.
〇 Botswana is not designated as a yellow fever risk country; however, if traveling via a country with yellow fever risk, a yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required. Information regarding vaccination will be provided, and participants who have not been vaccinated must arrange it themselves.
〇 Enrollment in OSSMA and travel insurance is required.
Expenses
The estimated cost for airfare, local accommodation, and local transportation is approximately 350,000 JPY.
Students who participate in the full program will receive 150,000 JPY per person as travel support from the university (provided after completion of the program).
