【Call for participation】The Cross-cultural Collaborative Summer Program 2026 at E-JUST

The summer programme organised in collaboration between the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) and our university will be running again this summer! Join E-JUST students in deepening your understanding of the challenges facing Egypt and exploring potential solutions through fieldwork and group workshops.

Program (Tentative / Under Preparation):

The programme is scheduled to take place on the following dates. The PBL workshop will be conducted jointly with E-JUST students.
27 August: Pre-departure preparation (pre-departure orientation)
29 August: Departure from Tokyo (Narita or Haneda)
30 August: Arrival in Cairo or Alexandria. Travel by road to E-JUST.
31 August: Orientation, Lectures & Workshops (Lectures and exercises on problem identification and analysis methods)
1 September: Lectures & Workshops (Lectures and exercises on the DPSIR model, problem tree/objective tree analysis, design thinking, manga story creation methods, and the heritage of Egypt)
2 September: Field study (New Alalmein City)
3 September: Field study (Bibliotheca Alexandria and others in Alexandria)
4 September:Lectures & Workshops (MobilityVerse 2050: Reimagining Egypt’s Sustainable Urban Future Through AI, Digital Twins, and Design Thinking)
5 September: Field study (Grand Egyptian Museum and Pyramids in Giza)
6 September: Field study (Cairo city centre)
7 September: Workshop (Problem definition, analysis and solution development; group work for manga story creation; presentation preparation)
8 September: Workshop (Problem definition, analysis and solution development; group work for manga story creation; presentation preparation)
9 September: Final Presentation Session
10 September: Return to Japan (Departure from Alexandria or Cairo; arrival at Narita or Haneda on 11 September)
16 September: Follow-up session (post-trip debriefing)

Number of participants to call: 10名

Eligibility:

Students enrolled in a regular degree programme at this university (undergraduate and postgraduate students, limited to those in the Master programme) who meet the following requirements.
・Applicants must be able to participate in the entire programme (pre-departure orientation, field study, and post-trip debriefing).
・Applicants must have an interest in communicating with people from diverse backgrounds, addressing local community issues, and engaging in international learning and study abroad.
・Applicants must be motivated to participate in the field study conducted in English.
・There are no restrictions on nationality; however, please ensure that your country of origin has diplomatic relations with Egypt and that you are eligible to enter Egypt

Participation Fee

USD 779 (includes accommodation, local transport and site visit entrance fees)
Details regarding payment of the participation fee will be provided once participants have been selected.
In addition to the above participation fee, participants will be responsible for domestic travel costs within Japan, return airfare between Narita and Cairo/Alexandria, travel insurance and the cost of an Egyptian entry visa.

Please note that, for safety and emergency response reasons, you may be required to use flights designated by the International Affairs Office.

Credits and Certification of Completion:

This programme will be registered as the following course:
‘Problem Solving through Multicultural Co-Learning (overseas) A’ (Course Code: 8331173, for undergraduate students) or ‘Problem Solving through Multicultural Co-Learning (overseas)’ (Course Code: 0A00323, for graduate students)
Participants who attend the entire programme and are recognised by the University as having achieved the intended learning outcomes will be awarded credits for the above course, as well as a certificate of completion and digital badges (*) indicating their level of attainment for each competency.

*Digital badges are digital certificates and credentials issued in accordance with globally recognised technical standards. They are awarded as data rather than physical items and are centrally managed in a personal ‘digital badge wallet’. Awarded open badges can be shared on social media and used as evidence of one’s learning history. Digital badges for this programme are issued via JV Campus.
