Conducted Student Interviews on Promoting Overseas Study and Travel Opportunities for STEM Students

As part of efforts to promote overseas experiences for STEM students, we invited two students from engineering-related fields—Koyo Nakajima (third-year student in the College of Knowledge and Library Sciences, School of Informatics) and Naoya Matsuda (first-year student in the Master’s Program in Engineering Mechanics and Energy)—to share their experiences and perspectives on studying abroad, as well as the challenges STEM students face when considering overseas opportunities. Nakajima was also a member of Category III (Science and Engineering) of the School of Comprehensive Studies during his first year.
During the session, the students shared many insightful perspectives, including the view that “studying abroad is not the goal itself, but a means of achieving one’s future goals.” They also emphasized the importance of providing STEM students with diverse opportunities for international experiences tailored to their future aspirations, as well as the role of universities in providing students who may not initially be interested in going abroad with their first opportunity to engage with different cultures.
The session provided a valuable opportunity for open and candid exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. We hope to incorporate the students’ perspectives into the planning of future programs and the development of relevant systems, thereby contributing to enriching international experiences for STEM students.
