Pre-Departure Safety Orientation and Student Advice Session Held for the Four-Country Multicultural Co-Learning SEA-Teacher Program
2026.1.22
The SEA-Teacher Program is an international teaching internship program organized by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). As part of this program, pre-service teachers complete one of the most important components of their teacher education curriculum—their teaching practicum—at partner universities across Southeast Asia.
As the only participating university in Japan, the University of Tsukuba has collaborated with SEAMEO in implementing the pilot batches of the program. This year marks the fifth batch. The University of Tsukuba will send six students—two each to partner universities in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines—while also welcoming a total of six exchange students from these universities to complete their teaching practicum in Japan.
On January 22, the second pre-departure safety orientation was held for the outgoing students (the first session took place in December). Participants received guidance on travel safety and risk management before their departure. During the latter half of the session, students had the opportunity to interact with participants from previous batches. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, they exchanged practical advice and asked questions about daily life abroad, helping them better prepare for their upcoming overseas experience.
In addition to the on-campus orientation sessions, participants will also attend online pre-departure meetings with their host universities in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, where they will receive information about local life and their teaching practicum. They are also taking part in intensive pre-departure classes, during which they prepare and present lesson plans in English.
With their departure scheduled for February 2, the students are now making their final preparations for the program.
